I’ve come to Cardiff RumFfest at the Angel Hotel in town today.
I’ve only just arrived and the first rum I tasted was Wood’s Old Navy Rum. That was a dark, woody, rich flavour, which pairs well with Wood’s own brand of chocolate. Rum and chocolate, now there’s a match made in heaven.
The new Angostura 1787 15year old was something I’d been really looking forward to try. Master distiller John Georges has brought his first bottles over from Trinidad & Tobago to Cardiff with UK brand ambassador Sean Duprey. The Angostura 1787 sipping rum celebrates the establishment of the first sugar mill in Trinidad in 1787, at the famous Lapeyrouse sugar plantation. It is made from reserve rums which have been maturing for 15 years in charred oak barrels. The flavour is sweet, rich and sophisticated. The first shipments of Angostura 1787 will arrive in the UK in November and guide retail price is £59.99 for 70cl bottle. www.angosturarum.com . The No1 Rum by Angustora is a real showstopper. Very classy, with a price to match.
Other rums I’ve tried so far include Mezan 2006, Rum-Bar Gold and Rum-Bar’s Rum Cream, which is a bit like Baileys.
The Angel is rocking, I’m going to carry on tasting. I’ll post any updates on the Twitter account if I get a chance.
